This is, at least, the third official SpongeBob SquarePants Magic 8 Ball, but the first released directly by Mattel.  Previous SpongeBob’s were released under license by Sababa Toys and as an unofficial Magic 8 Ball by Burger King.

At least Mattel got the box right!  Why Sababa originally put out a SpongeBob SquarePants in a green box is beyond me.

Luckily for us collectors and, no doubt, much to the pleasure of SpongeBob fans, Mattel came up with a whole new set of 20 custom answers this time:
